Original Paintings
We are constantly adding new images to our large collection of original paintings here at Andrew Kolb & Son. Most originals are painted by our artists in studio on gallery-wrapped canvas using acrylics. Gallery-wrapped indicates that the canvas, which is extended around the sides of the stretcher frame, is also painted and is part of the finished image. Gallery-wrapped paintings can be hung on the wall surface as is. Each painting is listed in the size it was originally created by the artist, but special sizes can also be requested. A variety of framing options are certainly available as well.
Reverse Paintings on Plexiglas
The newest fine art technique that we have added to Kolb Art’s repertoire is the Reversed Painting on Plexiglas which is derived from an age-old technique using glass that was popular during the Renaissance in Europe and whose cultural origins go back even further to India and China. A reverse painting is created by the artist painting the subject in reverse on the backside of glass. One of our artists, Steele, has incorporated this style into his work by using Plexiglas as his canvas, which gives each piece a unique luminosity. His artwork includes simple landscapes, beautiful floral pieces, and various abstracts. Each of his reverse paintings is constructed with numerous layers creating its unique texture, color, and movement.
Giclees
Over the last 3 years our giclee collection has really grown as we have became the publisher of our own prints. Giclee is the process of ink-jet printing directly on canvas using a high-resolution image of an original painting. The advantage of publishing is that, not only can we control quality, but we can print in a particular size or color selection in order to facilitate the special requirements of our customers. Many of our original painting are available already as giclees as shown here. Again, customers have a variety of size option.
Mixed Media
Kolb Art is pleased to re-introduce our mixed media series, an open edition of lithographs from original works of art. With this technique developed back in 1996 by some of our artists, each lithograph piece is enhanced and sealed to artist’s canvas, while the hand-painted borders add to it both texture and depth. As a result, each work features the delicate and subtle nuances of the original at a competitive price.
